Rita will share her practical insights on how she helps first-year students consider their career readiness. She will also share equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) considerations for future graduates. Rita will then interview industry professional, Gillian Hynes, expert in People, Culture, and Inclusion to have a dialogue about EDI from the new graduate recruitment lens.

Rita Cossa

Rita Cossa is an Associate Professor at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University. A long-standing instructor of introduction to business courses and a capstone strategy course, she has also taught Marketing courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Whether teaching on campus or online, Rita incorporates reflection, active learning, and student engagement in courses available to learners from all faculties. A best-selling author for Understanding Canadian Business, she strives to link business principles to professional practice. Teaching highlights include nominations for a McMaster Student Union Teaching Award, notations in the Maclean’s Guide to Canadian Universities as a Popular Prof for Marketing, a nomination to TV Ontario’s Best Lecturer Competition, and co-facilitating Instructional Skills Workshops. Committed to the scholarship of teaching and learning, her research has explored information literacy, the learning portfolio, and equity. In recognition for her dedication and impact, she is the recipient of the President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning.

Gillian Hynes

Gillian lives her belief that healthy and sustainable organizations require trust, community, and connection. She brings experience from the energy industry, the nonprofit world, and small to mid-size growth organizations, specializing in people, talent, and business strategy. With her multi-passionate approach, she advances diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplaces; connects people to build vibrant communities; explores how innovation can elevate people’s purpose; and develops creative organizational and community solutions. She believes that people are the heart of any organization and workplace. Gillian currently lives with firefighter spouse and two young children, where they enjoy the mountains, rivers, and prairie lands of Treaty 7 Territory and Region 3 of the Metis Nation of Alberta, in Calgary.
